Earlier I was listening to an advisor for the Obama campaign, Axelrod.. and when asked if the introduction of Sarah Palin into the race changed anything he responded to the effect that the campaign would stay focused on the main contenders, McCain and Obama.

What he should have said was this:

McCain's pick of Sarah Palin as his running mate shows that he is having serious issues with the radical right wing branch of the Republican party. This is a desperate attempt by the McCain campaign to appeal to far right conservatives that believe in the same radical positions that Sarah Palin holds. Mainstream Americans should be concerned that the McCain campaign is bowing to the pressure of a small but very vocal minority in the Republican party.

Obama, and the democrats need to make it clear that mainstream America should be very very afraid of the Republican base. The far right would not even let McCain choose his own running mate. Do we really want a president whose party is run by such hardliners with such fringe opinions on many important matters?
