I used to really love playing with Hot Wheels. I'd go over my friend Gary's house, begging my mom for an hour to go play, and we would carve out roads in the dirt and create places for the cars to go. I enjoyed how the shape of the ground would dictate the road's shape and direction, curving over a "hill", around a weed, or dropping down through a "valley". The purpose seemed to be nothing more than connecting the flat spots with twisting roads. It never even occured to me to collect my Hot Wheels. Collecting is what we do when we stop playing with things. A shaded patch of dirt and grass under a tree has no place or time. |
