For some, lack of health insurance is costly: South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "The federal government weighed in last month by freeing up $1 billion to pay hospitals and doctors who provide emergency care to undocumented immigrants. This money, with $8.7 million for Florida, is separate from emergency Medicaid, which pays for emergency care for the uninsured." The private health/insurance markets are already shifting the burden of caring for the least profitable to the federal government anyways, so why don't we just make it official, say, "Screw these moneygrubbing mofos" and save ourselves a load of cash and do it the right way? Oh yeah, I forgot, that would be unAmerican, where we heavily subsidize the private market, discriminate against the poor, and get the least bang for our buck than anyone else. But I'm sure someone out there is making a killing from the suffering of others, and what could be more American than that? |
