I used to wake up, climb in my car and drive down a road lined with people mowing lawns and trimming bushes. It takes lots of work to make a neighborhood look "safe" and "prosperous". Little, to none of that work was actually done by the residents. Most of it was done by people who woke up in the early dim light of morning to ride in buses or in the back of pickup trucks, workers who picked up trash, mowed lawns, fed kids, trimmed bushes and washed cars all day long. Most of the residents would be overwhelmed with the tasks of cleaning their own homes, washing their own cars and feeding their own children if not for the small army of people who descend on their neighborhood every day to do it for them. |
